Chemicals can be used to control ball moss but there are side affects...
Since ball moss is a plant it can be killed with chemicals. Applying the
right chemicals to your ball moss will rid your trees of the overgrowth over a period of a few days. Using a mixture with the active ingredient of copper hydroxide can halt your ball moss growth problem by spraying this mixture directly onto the ball moss. Mixed with a prescribed amount of water, normally six tablespoons per gallon, applications in the spring and winter are normally needed. HOWEVER this method is highly discouraged by The Roving Arborist Tree Service simply because the chemicals can harm humans as well as tender plants under the application area. Also the dead ball moss remains attached to the tree and is visible for up to 10 years after spraying. The chemical treatment method is not effective at all for aesthetics.
Proper pruning is another alternative for ball moss removal. Proper pruning help the tree structure, aesthetics and overall health. Having your trees properly pruned by The Roving Arborist not only takes care of the pruning but also removes 85% of any ball moss present. Proper Pruning
